Weird History: Korean Anarchist Commune in Manchuria [Korean resistance movement]

researching history sometimes you come across some very interesting sometimes very sad sometimes funny things there are times though what you find is just plain weird and this one will be one of those cases as you may know I'm looking into early 20th century Asian history and in researching Manchuria you can find one of the weirdest kind of states with quotations that probably ever existed it was partially a partisan movement but it was a ethnic Korean anarchist Federation in the middle of Manchuria so in modern-day China to explain how the hell this happened we have to go back a few years the area involved is the yin bian prefecture which has crowd just across the border from modern North Korea in the People's Republic of China historically this region has been inhabited by many Koreans however the number that actually lived in this area grew exponentially supposedly up to around 2 million and years following the Japanese annexation of Korea in 1910 the downfall of independent Korea caused millions to leave the country either because of the deportation by the Japanese sometimes to be used as slave labor or migration of people's fleeing the poverty of D now colonized country and the brutality of the Japanese occupation probably these were some of the darkest years in Korean history and their effect is still felt today Japan as you may know wasn't done with just Korea and sought to increase its influence and Manchuria as well up north for the time being the world became very very busy suddenly fighting World War one so Japan could not really pursue expansion in Manchuria it was having its that attention diverted to the German colonies in the Far East and so it could not expand following the end of the war in 1919 there was actually a large independence movement in Korea that rocked the Japanese control over to Connie it happened in March in the suppression of this movement in these protests several thousand people were actually massacred by Bennie's and several more thousand fled to Manchuria to fight Japan this time they were armed they found fertile ground actually among the ethnic Korean population in this border region however at the time the entire East Asian region near the Pacific Ocean was ravished by roaming armies we were in the full swing of the Russian Civil War and both white Russian forces and under Admiral Kolchak in case you know him and read partisans duked it out Indian suing instability Japan had an excuse to occupy portions of Siberia the Siberian intervention along the trans-siberian railway all the way up to Lake Baikal eastern shores to supply this expedition into Siberia not only the trans-siberian railway was used aka the Russian railway built in Russian territory but also the Chinese Eastern Railway in Manchuria which ran from about Cheeta in the old Russian Empire to Vladivostok through Manchuria this was part of the Russian sphere of influence traditionally in China however at this point that was taken over by Japan and so to secure this secure daslink of course the Japanese increased their influence in Manchuria next year a force of the new Korean independence army that had just formed fought the Japanese army and guerrilla warfare over this region throughout October several battles were fought over the Yanbian prefecture including a pretty famous battle over chin Shanley and the Korean forces after some skirmishes of which we do not really know the result the results are still disputed just like many of the things actually involved in East Asian battles and history's around this period the sources aren't very clear as to what actually was going on it was just a very very chaotic and the Korean forces were forced to retreat deeper into Manchuria persuaded pursued by the Japanese army the function clique which was the Chinese army that controlled Manchuria was nominally part of the Chinese government but was actually under severe itch severe Japanese and once the front tank leaked actually included Japanese officers as advisors and sometimes even Japanese troops fought alongside it as far as I know though the phone tank did not actually take part in the suppression of the Korean partisan movement as the Soviet forces eventually regain control of the Far East in 1922 the region was actually once again contested and open to first Soviet and then Russian influence as Stan's USSR really started to project its power in the Far East as well in 1925 Korean anarchists yes Korean anarchists who were part of the independence movement helped form a People's Government kind of administration in the shinmin boo or New People's Prefecture around the area of yen been subsequently the Korean anarchist Federation actually became involved in this endeavor and the militant Kim Jong Jin a close relative of a general called Kim vagine who was going to come back into the story submitted a plan to the military command that controlled this area because of course the era was controlled by the Korean and Korean Independence Army so this plan actually advocated for the formation of a voluntary rural cooperative kind of system self managed by peasantry and the establishment of comprehensive education system for all including adults and military training in guerrilla warfare for all after some debates and input from the founders of not only these groups but also other groups such as the Korean anarchist communist Federation the main general controlling the Korean independence army Kim drogyn and his staff accepted the plan and the region became and anarchists the zone Kim the other one – Kim drudging who is the general of the Korean independence army kind of became known as the Korean maca no mana was a pretty anarchist commander that fund russian civil war in ukraine and he had become a commander for decay in 1919 and actually fought in the battle of chin shanley and the sort of korean struggle over the border region in Manchuria in 1929 this shinmin prefecture was transformed into the Korean People's Association in Manchuria also known as the general League of Koreans which was a regional libertarian socialist sort of administration which embraced the territory of some two million people again we do not really know exactly how many but around 2 million people allegedly and this self managed structure was actually an organization of delegates from each sort of villages and districts and organized around departments that dealt with you know everything that a government should like warfare agriculture education the propaganda sort of work you've healthcare all of that even public relations and all that Elliott's at these levels were mostly sort of workers and peasants from the area and they formed around a structure that was very similar to other communes so they earned kind of a minimum wage they had no privileges and were revocable at any period they were subject to essentially the people that they represented at all times so without considering the bizarre origins of this essentially this this kind of communist structure was established from above from the members and the General Staff of the Korean independence army despite all of this eventually it of course garnered a lot of popular support and it was based on a peasant militia army essentially the militia was initially drawn from the ki a the Korean and the independence army but eventually was supplemented by local guerrilla fighters and the Manchurians as they could be known operated mostly in rural areas of course being more suited to guerrilla warfare in January 1930 the league lost its leader Kim Jong was actually assassinated while working and this kind of became the beginning of the troubles for them the entire sort of zone was subject to periodical skirmishing much like the rest of China at the time almost constant fighting not just with regulated forces but of course also with irregular bandits guerrillas and all that as you may know so much like the rest of China in this part of Korea there was a chronic instability and this Korean League had to compete with information for other Korean groups that tried to of course recruit among the ethnic koreans of the region some were supported by the Stalin's USSR and the actual region was essentially a war zone between Japan the Chinese function click these USSR supported Korean forces and other various Korean groups despite all of this the Gambian region actually still has a modern Korean population a 50 Korean population to this day so these Korean anarchists interestingly actually collaborated with nationalist groups eventually in doing so the attempt to establish the league as a viable government it was essentially a nationalist endeavor in the end reflecting the influence of a more peasant movement again rather than a working-class one traditionally more revolutionary and social and character rather than national and patriotic the international situation eventually however changed and this essentially caused downfall of this this prefecture disorganization Japan's government was increasingly pushed towards aggressive expansionism late twenties and early thirties sooner couldn't even control its military forces the relatively liberal democracy that ruled Japan in the 1920s the ty'chell democracy soon gave way to who attempt after coup attempt from the Army forces in Japan and their comrades and arms on the continent soon followed suit of course the government couldn't even control the army in Japan so you can imagine in the colonies exactly how much more independent these forces were from government control and thief the quantum Army in Manchuria soon took over dismantling Definity and clique and replacing it with the state of Manchu quo from September 1931 onwards although Manchu code wasn't actually established until 1942 following this many Chinese resistance groups sprung up to fight Japan mainly led by the Chinese Communist Party actually and supported sometimes by the Soviet Union and sometimes by the nationalist Chinese government allegedly these forces actually also fought against the Korean League but I can find any actual factual evidence Furness so I have no idea this is just speculation I have just seen this written on some places but it's not reliable at all be that as it may Japan was now sort of free being in true in actual control over the area to start a large campaign against this Korean independence movement The Manchurian Revolution was thus crushed by the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931 sort of historical contingency and the Korean anarchist Federation and the Korean anarchist communist Federation all those groups that you may remember were forced to fight essentially a rearguard guerilla retreat into the rest of China that was not controlled by Japan where they continued the armed struggle against Imperial Japan alongside sometimes their Chinese comrades until japaese Japan's defeat however as you may know Japan Japan Korea still had to fight its own Korean War and conflicts leading the 50s as well so other Korean independence fighters around the area had actually joined the chinese nationalist army and eventually these became core of the army of the Republic of Korea the Korean Liberation Army or the Korean independence Army's sort of I guess descendants yet more Korean fighters join the guerrilla forces of the Chinese Communist Party and the Soviet Red Army such as actually the founder of North Korea Kim il-sung who is actually pretty well known and they would eventually become the Korean People's Army so this is men share based Korean movement during the 20s and for 30s actually formed the most practical basis for the leader establishment of the Korean military's and the independent Korean states the peculiar brands of Korean nationalism where sometimes infused with left-wing rhetoric and they can be seen still seen today in today's North Korea of course unfortunately much like in Maoist China far from leaning to a libertarian society this attempt at uprisings movements and territorial control of freely organized peasantry and the villages ultimately led to yet more brutal regimes and that's what I find really interesting about not only these peasant green Korean peasant movements but also the Chinese attempts of the period so if you enjoy this kind of brief historical presentation of some weird history do tell me down in the comments and well of course you can like subscribe love all that normal stuff I don't care so you can show your support for the Kim this kind of video and I'll do more of it I want to thank y'all for watching hope you've enjoyed and I will see you soon

  1. The Korean ancestors in ancient times of the ice age survived by escaping from the cold living inside caves.

They constantly made a fire to avoid the cold and drive wild animals out and they happened to find the copper(CU, bronze).

The Korean term Copper means caves and bronze.

In addition, the tribe who had discovered the copper (called copper tribe) created letters originated by the characters like clessi, clethi, cle, glishi and so on..

Afterwards, they constructed a civilized country Go(ๅค)joseon(chosen)based on the bronze era.

Eventually, King Sejong not only systemized the letters of Go chosen and but also restored and compiled a language that contained sound(Pronunciation sound, ็™ผ้Ÿณ) for the purpose of establishing the identity of chosen(joseon) Dynasty.

But this historical fact was distorted during the colonization by Japan.

In addition, many cultural assets and the history of Korea were incorporated into Japan.

Japan erased four characters such as
    ใ€Šใ†, ใ† , ใ†† ,ใ…ฟใ€‹ among 28 letters.

The reason why Japan damaged Korean history is that everyone may be able to realize easily that the owner of the pyramid was the Copper tribe and that Joseon people are the descendants of them if we Koreans still have those four letters.

The first ใ€Šโ—ใ€‹ means an initial life particle, the second ใ€Šใ†ใ€‹ means the combination of yin and yang initial particles.

The third ใ€Šใ††ใ€‹ means the combined life particles coming down to the horizontal lines.

The fourth ใ€Šใ…ฟใ€‹ means the life particles are wrapped and protected.

And ใ€Šใ…ฟใ€‹ is three meaning mountain, pyramid and womb.

In ancient times people around the world used Korean language. Hangul is a term distorted in the Japanese colonial era. The original term is "CLESSI". This is the roots of languages โ€‹โ€‹and characters around the world.

  3. Hello, I'm a student working on korean anarchism and first, I would like to thank you for your work.
However, I woud like to know where did you find the archives (photos and newspapers)?
I also followed you on twitter to may have the chance to discuss more about your work.
Finally, do you really think that the title "weird History" is appropriate? How would you consider this part of history as "weird"?
    Thank you :).

  6. After the Qing Dynasty had be destroyed by the New Year Revolution
(Let's get rid of the barbarians and revive the Chinese Han.),

Manchu, Tibet, and Uighur were all independent at that time, why are they labeled as Chinese lands?
Later, do you not know that Mao Zedong has driven the Chiang Kai-shek to Taiwan, killing several ethnic minorities in the name of the Cultural Revolution, and forcing them to join forces again, is now the territory of the People's Republic of China

Go to the above address please translate and read in English,
If you go on, you will be able to solve what you think is strange. It was the area where Koreans were recognized as the territory of Korea during the Korean Empire

  7. Thanks for parsing an interesting topic!
As a person interested in anarchism, it was very interesting to hear about the adventures of Korean anarchists in Manchuria.
