The American Psychological Association Has Lost Its Mind | Harry Kazenoff

In 2018, The American Psychological Association,
the largest scientific and professional organization of psychologists in the United States, released
its “Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Boys and Men.” The document opens by claiming, “socialization
for conforming to traditional masculinity”, defined in part as stoicism and competitiveness,
“limit[s] males’ psychological development, constrain[s] their behavior, result[s] in
gender role strain and gender role conflict, and negatively influence[s] mental health.” The document has been opposed by numerous
psychologists and APA members, including famed self-improvement advocate Jordan Peterson,
who argued that “there is nothing intellectually credible and indisputably nothing ‘scientific’”
about the guidelines. Its claim that masculine socialization leads
to aggression and violence is directly contradicted by the fact that the absence of a father is
a major cause of violence in young men. Sadly, advocating far-left views is nothing
new for the American Psychological Association. The habit goes almost back to its founding. In 1899, the APA elected John Dewey as president. A self-described “democratic socialist,”
Dewey opposed the enlightenment understanding of individual rights that our Founders followed
in writing the U.S. Constitution. In 1937, a communist group called the ‘Psychologists
League’ marched for more jobs in a May 1st, May Day parade. After that league disbanded a few years later,
its influence led to the development of one of the APA’s major divisions: the Society
for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. In the 1960’s, the APA supported President
Johnson’s left-wing Great Society Program, which drastically expanded the size of government
and launched a “War on Poverty” that’s been criticized by numerous economists for
producing the opposite of its goal. Economist Thomas Sowell writes, “The black
family, which had survived centuries of slavery and discrimination, began rapidly disintegrating
in the liberal welfare state that subsidized unwed pregnancy and changed welfare from an
emergency rescue to a way of life.” The APA is active in the courts too, weighing
in on cases far outside its expertise, including advocating for affirmative action, opposing
the reopening of the nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island, and supporting efforts to force
a baker to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding. Despite the APA’s place as a fixture of
the American mental health landscape and a national accrediting agency, its left-wing
activism is extensive. In 2016, the APA’s third largest group of
expenditures was spent on social justice education and public policy. Criticizing this activism isn’t a criticism
of psychological science. Precisely because psychological science and
treating mental illnesses are so important, we shouldn’t allow the APA to corrupt the
field with unscientific, politically loaded views. The APA is the leading voice in mental health
and needs to be held accountable for fulfilling its role responsibly. I’m Harry Kazenoff. If you liked this video, please help us share

  1. Someone… somewhere.. has decided it's a good idea to poison the minds of a whole young generation of humanity…effectively slamming the transmission of evolution into reverse.. It seems the brain trust of society has been infected with a collective psychosis.. Someone pressed the self destruct button…

  2. Masculinity is a prison; the idea that toxic masculinity leads to emotional stunting has a basis in reality, and I’m sure that study you cite explains as to why. But for instance, the fact that within our culture it is often seen as odd or unacceptable for a man to showcase certain emotions and vulnerabilities leads to many boys who absolutely do not know how to express themselves, and so end up holding in and suppressing their emotions instead of letting them out in a healthy way. This can have very damaging affects on emotional development and is a major reason why feminism is important not just for women, but for men as well.

  3. Decry an organization as evil because it doesn't support your agenda, fail to dispute any of its findings with evidence beyond an unexamined spurious correlation, then throw in some appeals to authority from fringe figures who are either not American, or not psychologists. All without addressing a single counter argument.
Just because a scientific organization supports a left wing policy, that does not make it automatically wrong. You have got to check first. Novel idea right? Scientific even!
There is more to address, and possible studies to reference, but this is on mobile, and I can only handle so much garbage at one time

  4. Most authoritative body on psychological research in America: Men are capable of being less than prefect.

    Conservatives: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  5. The bottom line is: Don't teach your kids to fit into a category.

You can play sports with your son, but if he doesn't want to play baseball, don't sign him up for practice. If he's into things that aren't marketed towards boys like pop music or smaller cars, don't mock him for it.

DO NOT make your child feel like a freak.
THAT'S WHY MEN BECOME AGGRESSIVE! Because they are unsatisfied with themselves and they lash out. They develop defense mechanisms like bottling up their emotions until it's too late.

  6. You need to speak more slowly. The independent thinker wants to be able to think about what you are saying as you say it. He does not want to have to expend all of his effort on simply following what you are saying.

  7. This video just screams: "I wish I was Prager".
Capital Research is just another libertarian think tank like the Cato Institute, Heritage Foundation, and the Atlas Network. They're all funded by big money families like the Kochs and Mercers. They fund them because it always results in less taxes and regulations. Training an army of useful idiots for neo-liberalism.

  8. This is all about taking the guns. There's broad public support that gun rights should be limited for those with mental health problems. Most guns are owned by men, and if there were some kind of insurrection it would be done mostly by men. The APA seeks to make masculinity a mental health issue thus making an end run around the 2nd amendment to take the guns.
