Thanksgiving: Overcoming Socialism

we think we know the story of Thanksgiving the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock faced a harsh winter famine disease and then only with the help of friendly natives learn how to survive that's nice for bedtime stories but it ignores the most important lessons of our early history the pilgrims weren't city slickers ill-prepared for wilderness life nor were they misguided about the challenges facing them the new world sadly the travails and trials of those pilgrims weren't the result of recklessness ignorance or chance no the problems the pilgrims faced and overcame were their very own making through a misguided sense of economic ideology William Bradford governor of the Plymouth Colony explains clearly in his own hand what happened in the history of the plymouth settlement they impose on themselves what he would call communal service what we today would recognize as socialism everything the land the work the crops everything was held communally everyone was expected to work hard and yet receive only what they truly needed as a result Bradford wrote many would simply alleged weakness and inability Bradford reported that the young men who were most able and fit for service objected to being forced to spend their time and strength in working for other men's wives and children without any recompense at the same time the strong man or the resourceful man had no more share of food clothes etc than the weak man who was not able to do a quarter the other could Bradford then noted community of property was found to breed much confusion and discontent no one had an incentive to work so no one produced and everyone was miserable remember this is a small group of people who shared common values cared for each other and had willingly joined philosophically to the colonies arrangements it's just that socialism fails in practice whenever and wherever it's tried sometimes it limps along but ultimately the results are always the same after three years the colony abandoned its communal life plus they die off completely Bradford wrote that colony leaders to buy to the land among the families and allowed each man to plant corn for his own house and to trust themselves for that as a result it made all hands very industrious so that much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the governor or any other could devise and saved him a great deal of trouble and gave far better satisfaction private property rights in a free market carried the day labor was naturally vided not politically imposed with everyone doing what they could do best with their own benefit and thereby increasing the productivity and happiness of the colony as a whole in the newly free society where the local knowledge of Native Americans was combined with the scientific techniques of Europe the pilgrims had a harvest bountiful beyond comparison the very first days of the American experience demonstrated what world history has shown repeatedly that socialism fails and fails miserably it's Liberty not central planning that produces bounty just as it was in the 17th century let us not forget in the 21st century that individual liberty is a necessary and integral component for our general prosperity from all of us at empower Texans and Texans for fiscal responsibility happy Thanksgiving

  1. I don't believe what he says. I checked out William Bradford on Wiki and it said nothing about socialism or communism. And I hate how Republicans keep bringing up socialism like the Democrats are a communist party. It's the same bullshit that McCarthy pulled in the 50's.

Also it's a big lie that socialism can never work or has never worked. The Linux operating system is part of the free software community and it runs faster, is more stable, and more secure than Windows which you pay for.

  2. really if your gong to take a lesson from this it should be in agrarianism, you know "honor, manliness, self-reliance, courage, moral integrity, and hospitality"

    Not capitalism.

  3. The conservatives and socialists of whom you speak are both right and stand for civilisation and the preservation of our traditions. Liberals stand for destruction, chaos, banking parasitism, ridiculous inequalities, and moral degeneracy!

  4. This video is BS Bradford stated his personal opinion on something he thought unconventional and irrational based on the standards he's lived in
So what he saw was considered dysfunctional and saw supposed issues that werent necessarily problems for the pilgrims
They did not manage to survive because there was a different "economic" environment brought unto them by the colonists which obviously made their original way of thinking useless and not because it was impractical from the beginning

  5. We've been there since Reagan. That's the real reason he single-handedly dissolved the USSR. They were cutting in on his liberal Hollywood actor turf.

  6. people need to realise that socialism is one of the most evil things in this world.

government brainwashes the people that socialism is for the compasionate, for those that care for others. nothing could be further from the truth.

  7. Great job! It's so nice to see the true story of the early colonies being shared. I'm going to pass this along to my young friends who, I am sure, will not hear the truth in their socialist schools.
