Should the U.S. Intervene in Socialist Venezuela?

would be a big mistake for Maduro he used force against innocent civilian with the US intervene militarily yeah yeah all options remain on the table all options have been on the table now 15 years well Venezuela is in crisis they're in crisis because their country their economy is in a hyperinflation that is of historic records in the world they are poverty-stricken they are dealing with a socialist government an oppressive socialist government a corrupt oppressive socialist government that has steered its country into the Straits it is in now the opposition which is supported by about 50 countries throughout the world is trying to oust Maduro and has been so far unsuccessful at that we have some very hawkish people in the Trump administration mainly our vice president pence in my first trip to South America President Trump had already made it clear that we reserved all options our Secretary of State Pompeo the United States is determined to keep every option on the table to restore that democracy national security advisor John Bolton as I've said all options remain on the table who have really been pushing for intervention in this conflict we need to help the people there get the economy back on track but any military intervention by the United States would be folly you would see the same thing as you had seen in places like Iraq for example and Libya our intervention our presence there is already suspect I don't think that John Bolton or Mike Pence or Mike Pompeo actually realize how much traction that Maduro is getting by their sabre-rattling for intervention he is emboldened by this American Menace that is calling for regime change so for every person that's out there on the street fighting for the opposition for change in his country he gets to turn to these guys in Washington say they're coming to get you the specter of America intervening in South American and Central American politics is so keenly felt down there they don't forget what happened in the 80s they don't forget our interventionist policies so I feel that we are only embolden a Maduro at this point president Trump has appointed Elliott Abrams who is a neoconservative of the first order who was involved in our incursions in Nicaragua and El Salvador in the 80s so there's already bad blood for US intervention in the region and there's no reason why we can't be mindful of what's going on in our hemisphere and encouraging democracy they're encouraging reforms and a better government without sending in US troops in aid you you

  1. "…a corrupt, oppressive socialist government." Nothing like a few redundancies to round out a sentiment that was perfectly expressed by "A socialist government."

Is there any other way for a socialist government to be?

So, no intervention? OK, here are are the options as I see them:
    1) We stand aside stoically and watch millions of people in a neighboring country die of starvation and violence. Again.
    2) Private citizens intervene with humanitarian aid, advice and goodwill gestures. Security will be provided by…Maduro's thugs? We end up supporting the very thing Venezuela needs to get rid of and prolonging the suffering.
    3) All of the above.
    4) None of the above.

The analogy to Iraq is specious: Venezuela devolved into a socialist shit-hole, Iraq was one before and still is.

  2. THE USA UNTIL RECENTLY BOUGHT 80% OF ITS OIL WHILE IT GAVE AWAY FOR FREE TO CUBA AND OTHER BAD ACTORS. MADURO ALSO FUNDED MIGRANT CARAVANS TO THE USA HE WAS GIVEN TEN'S OF MILLION TO FIX THE ELECTRIC AND STOLE THE MONEY. HE HAS 3,00O GENERALS MORE THAN THE COMBINED US MILITARY ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THESE GENERAL ARE MILLIONAIRES/BILLIONAIRES. THE SANCTIONS NEVER INCLUDED FOOD OR MEDICINE AND THERE HAVE BEEN CONTAINERS OF FOOD MEDICINE AT THE BOARDER FOR MANY MONTHS PLUS THE HOSPITAL SHIP USS COMFORT HAS BEEN NEAR BY. I LOVE WHEN HE BLAMES SICK KIDS ON SANCTION THEN WILL SPEND TEN;S OF MILLION ON A NEW RUSSIAN WEAPONS SYSTEM. PLUS IT WAS ONLY A FEW YEARS AGO THEY SPENT $47 MILLION TO VIOLENTLY CONFISCATING PRIVATE GUN OWNERSHIP. SO THE ONLY ONES ARE CRIMINALS AND HIS THUGS. IT IS IMPLODING ON ITS OWN HOW EVER SOUTH AMERICA SHOULD TAKE THE LEAD, HE AND HIS DELUDED BRAIN WASHED RED SHIRTED SUBMITTER WHO GET THE BEST EXCHANGE RATE, JOBS AND FOOD BOXES KNOW THE BLOW BACK WILL BE SEVER. THERE ARE MORE VENEZUELANS IN EXILE THAN THOSE WHO VOTED FOR THE RIGGED SCAM OF AN ELECTION A TRILLION DOLLAR GONE VERY LITTLE BUT RICE AND BEANS TO SHOW FOR IT..

  3. US individuals (not the gov) should help. We need to get free market ideologies into that culture. And not back a military coup just because they may embrace capitalism b/c we may end up with another Chile, in which everyone feels bad for the leftists so now they're on the rise again.
