Mitt Romney's "47 Percent" Comments

there are 47 percent of the people who evolved with the president another one all right there 47% were with him who are dependent on government we believe that their victims we believe that government has a responsibility to care for them who believe that they're entitled to health care to food housing do you think that that's an entitlement and government should give it to them and they will vote for this president no matter what I mean the president starts off with 48 49 23 he starts off with a huge number these are people who pay no income tax 47% of Americans pay no income tax so our message of local taxes doesn't connect he'll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich that's what they celebrate every four years and SOI job is not to worry about those people on everything so they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives what I have to do is convince me five to ten percent in the center that our independence that are thoughtful to look at voting one way or the other depend upon in some cases emotion whether they like the guy or not

  1. The government is the Union of the People, when people think otherwise; the government has failed.

  2. It was this comment and and hillary clinton's deplorables comment that what made them lose their respective races that and mitt romney was too weak and soft I will give obama this one credit though he and trump are Street Fighters they fight dirty

  3. He don't care about anything other than size of his bank account and stupid people of UT will vote again for him. You know he believes God was an Alien? Maybe he will be of good use to the Space Force?

  4. Romney has to realize that red states have higher rates of recipients than blue states 😟

  5. 100% the truth. It probably did not sound good, but that 10% ( mostly the white vote) is what will be the deciding factor for the next 30-40 years. It will get smaller and smaller, but that will be what the liberals need

  6. "47% are dependent on government. 47% are victims. 47% believe they are entitled to basic necessities. My job is not to worry about those people" and people agree with that. Geez. Evil

  7. I disagree with Mitt Romney and wasn’t a fan of this comment but this is nothing compared to some of the garbage that has come of Donald Trump’s mouth

  8. i VOTED AGAINST ROMNEY BECAUSE THIS SPEECH, SHOWING HE WAS AN RICH-ARROGANT-SOCIAL-DARWINIST
(LIKE MANY CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS, IGNORANT, ISOLATED AND OUT-OF-TOUCH WITH A LARGE PORTION OF AMERICANS WORKING TWO JOBS TO MAKE ENDS MEET). THIS IGNORANCE AND LAISSEZ-FAIRE ATTITUDE (REPUBLICAN POLITIIANS, LIKE ROMNEY) OF SIMPLY CUTTING THE DEAD-WEIGHT OF AMERICANS DEALING WITH PROBLEMS OF ECONOMIC-INEQUALITY, HELPED LEAD TO THE TWISTED ATTITUDE, THAT ELECTED TRUMP. IRONICALLY, TRUMP'S OWN ARROGANCE, INCOMPETENCE, AND CORRUPTION, MAKES GUYS LIKE ROMNEY AND GEORGE W. LOOK LIKE STATESMAN NOW!

  9. I never taken welfare. But I borrowed 18k in federal student loans at 3.4 interest. So I must be an entitled brat. I once called the cops on an abandoned car. And I drive on government on roads and bridges everyday. I guess I am part of the 47 percent. I should pave my own roads and bridges. And tow away my own cars. I need to take more personal responsibility.

  10. I was telling the bleeding heart liberal Democrat woman that I work with about these statements of MItt Romney. She won't even talk to me at this point. She is my bus attendant on a special education school bus route. She will NOT SPEAK to me and she only cares for her own opinion, much the way I only care about my opinion. Meanwhile it would be nice to have socialized medicine where the government paid for my health needs. I am stuck now with an $18,000 health bill that I cannot pay.

  11. Very sad that so many live off government funding. Just one objection … while it may be true that a large number of Americans don't pay any federal income tax, politicians always seem to forget that we are taxed TWICE at the federal level. One is the regular income tax, and the other is the dreaded "payroll tax" (for Social Security and Medicare), which sucks 7.65% right off the top of even what minimum wage workers make … and those who are self-employed pay twice that much, since the payroll tax for employees is matched by their employers. It's really too bad Romney wasn't elected … we'd be in better shape today as a country if he had been.

  12. He's def not wrong. A lot of people will never understand the concept he's speaking about. He's speaking to people he can relate to

  13. I think he meant not worrying about their votes affecting his chances of election. I don't think he meant that he doesn't want good for them. I got that tone. Tone and context matter a lot. On surface value without seeing the video, it may seem that. However, Romney clearly was talking in terms of politics. Romney comes off as a warm guy. I highly doubt he meant it the way people have said. I can understand to someone who hasn't seen the video why they might think otherwise. See Trump has made anti-German comments. Cheney has favored "guilty before proven innocent."

  14. Romney was ONE HUNDRED PERCENT correct, and I think his biggest mistake was running away from comments like that. If I were him (I even said so at the time) I would have OWNED that comment and continued to attack Obama's failed policies and Socialist background, and explained to Americans why Obama's plans were dangerous for America. Now I don't know if 47% is accurate, it seems a bit high to me. But it's very clear what his meaning is – 47% percent of the population is going to vote for Obama no matter what because of the promise of "free stuff." For those who think it's elitist, is it any more elitist than dismissing small town people of "clinging to guns and religion?" Any more elitist than telling hard working business owners that they "didn't build that?" Any more elitist than wanting to "fundamentally change America?"

Romney could have easily cleaned Obama's clock if he ran a more Trump-like campaign, exposed Obama for the dangerous Progressive Socialist that he was, and then turned to middle-class Americans and asked "Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?" If he turned to struggling middle-class Americans and explained the benefits of free-market economies, and emphasized that "You are NOT racist just because you don't like the President's policies." Humanize himself and appeal to what's great about America and Americans. Middle class voters WANTED a reason to reject Obama but the Democrats play the race card, spreading "white guilt." Romney didn't give Americans a reason to change horses midstream.

Bottom line: The reason that Romney lost is because he told Americans what they needed to hear, and Obama told us what we wanted to hear.

  15. I was young when this happened, and I remember the media being pissed about it and teachers commenting about it negatively. Looking back, he is very right. I have no idea why this would outrage people. It's the truth. He would have made a better president.

  16. Yeah the outrage over this was overblown, especially compared to the numerous more damning leaks of Hillary insulting Bernie voters and the "public and private position" – still would never have voted for him, nor do I think he would have deserved to win.

  17. I never understood the controversy here, Romney is 100% correct. I talk about the same thing. Although Ive never put a number on it. I think it was only controversial because we are used to politicians always being so politically correct. Romney grew some balls for a few minutes and some people couldn't handle hearing the truth.

  18. wow, looking back people really made this out to be way worse, I now see four years later what he was talking about

  19. a lot of you people are so stupid and heartless all this concern about giving someone food stamps like it's really coming out of YOUR pocket! you must remember that there are people out there who can't work and have disabilities! you don't want to give them money, but the least you can do is feed them! damn!! oh let's just kill them all, it'll save us money!! that's a typical white man way of thinking about things! I don't think it's right to just let them starve to death. The rich are idiots. they always want somebody to do their bidding, but you don't want them that have a decent place to live. you don't want to have a decent life, or be able to eat properly just walk to your death. Evil evil people.
