Improv Warm-Ups : Improv Warm-Ups: 1st Letter, Last Letter Word Association

This is an improv warmup called First Letter,
Last Letter Word Association, and it’s like any word association game, where you work
on listening and responding spontaneously, in the moment, but there’s an extra level
added where you have to listen to the word, not only for the content of the word, but
for the spelling of the word, so it really forces you to be spontaneous, because it’s
hard to pre-plan, when you don’t know what the letter of the word is, you’re going to
be starting with. So what I do, is I have everybody start in a circle, and what’s going
to happen, is the first person in the circle, they’re going to say a word. They might say
firecracker, and then the next person is going to think about what letter does that word
end with. Can you guess? That’s right, it’s R, firecracker, so they’re going to turn and
look at the next person in line, and say a word that begins with R. Maybe they’ll say
righteous, and then that person is going to turn, and deliver to the next person, silly,
and then yodel, and so on and so forth. Where you’re doing that first letter, last letter,
or word association around the circle, and once you get good at it, you can get it going
pretty fast, where the words are just buzzing around the circle. People are listening, and
responding in the moment, so that’s a fun, word association game called First Letter,
Last Letter, Word Association.
