Fallen officers remembered by community on anniversary

Today marks three years since
the deaths of Des Moines Police
Sgt. Anthony Beminio and
Urbandale Police Officer Justin
Martin. Both officers were
shot-and-killed in 20-16. This morning — there was a
ceremony in Urbandale near the
spot where Officer Martin died. His family was there for the
unveiling of the monument, built
in his honor. The couple that lives on the
corner of 70th and Aurora
came-up with the idea when their
sidewalk was redone this summer. Rest- haven Funeral Home made
the plaque — and they weren’t
expecting it to be ready until
winter — due to the detail on
the badge. Martin’s parents
told KCCI today’s ceremony, meant a lot to them.
Des Moines Sergeant Anthony
Beminio was killed — less than
a half hour after Martin’s
ambush. Today — the police department
posted this video in honor of
Sergeant Beminio. It shows him
with his wife and children… as
well as candid moments from when
he was on the police force. It also had a message that reads,
in part… “Behind my badge is a
heart like yours, I bleed, I
think, I love, and yes I can be
killed.. End of watch November
2nd, 20-16. Gone, but not forgotten 50- 30.”
