-Truly one of the coolest things
about me is that I’m friends with you.
That’s truly — -That is true.
-Exactly. but I was also lucky enough
to go on a trip to South Africa with you, which was amazing. What do you remember
about that trip? What were your favorite moments? -I remember all of it.
I remember alllll of it. -Ooh.
[ Audience oohs ] -It was first of all one of
the most touching moments, because you are one of those
rare people who — when you really are interested
in something and you say you’re interested,
you actually mean it. And then you actually, like,
show up. And — [ Cheers and applause ]
-Thank you. Thank you. -I shared with you — -Like, has L.A. made the bar
that low? [ Laughter ]
-It is sad, but true. But I had told you about
this — this outreach program that I have there
in South Africa. And you said, “I’m fascinated
and I want to come.” And you actually flew
your cute little bottom all the way to South Africa,
which takes about three weeks. It’s very far.
[ Laughter ] It’s no joke. It’s not like, “Yeah, I’ll see you, you know,
in San Francisco.” It’s a big commitment, and you
came for a really long time. And where our programs work
are in very rural parts of South Africa, so you end up taking these very long
bus rides. So yet again, so impressed,
’cause she’s just in the bus happy to be there.
[ Laughter ] [ Cheers and applause ] And then I think you —
maybe it was me — Or I don’t remember
how it started, but I have a feeling it was me, ’cause I wanted a free Lilly
Singh lesson. I was like,
“Oh, so this social media thing, like, I don’t really
know how to — What is the Instagram thing?
And what is the Stories thing?” And you’re like, “first of all
that is embarrassing. And sit your ass down next to me
right now.” [ Laughter ]
-Yes. And I need to tell y’all —
[ Cheers and applause ] She’s not exaggerating.
She knew nothing. -Oh, I knew nothing.
-About — -Nothing.
-I was talking about Instagram story.
I was like, “And then there’s filters.”
She’s like, “What do you mean?” And I put, like,
dog ears on her. Mind blown.
-Blew my mind. -Oscar-Winning actress
mind blown by these dog ears. -I was like,
“Wait, and there’s cat ears?!” -Yeah.
[ Laughter ] Mind blown.
-Yes, this is true. -So from that moment, you
started using social media. So who do you —
Who do you follow on Instagram? Do you interact with
the famouses on Instagram? -I do, yes. All day long.
-Ooh! -No, I mean listen.
I’m just — I’m fascinated to — I really enjoy it.
I think it’s a great platform. There’s some real ownership
in it and — I don’t know. I’m diggin’ it.
I’m diggin’ it, kids. [ Laughter ]
I was not — The one thing that you missed
in your tutorial, though, was that you did not —
-I like feedback. -Yes. It’s a good thing
to maybe mention that there is this thing
called “fake accounts.” Which I did not know so I was
following a lot of people — I was following Emily Blunt.
[ Laughter ] But I wasn’t really following
Emily Blunt. And somebody was like,
“No, I don’t think Emily –” This was — I don’t know if she
is now, but she was like, “No, Emily’s not
on social media.” I was like, “Oh, she is.
I follow her.” And, yeah, that was
a hard lesson to learn. -Oh, I just figured
it would be implied, since they have 30 followers. -I thought maybe, you know, people just didn’t really care about what Emily blunt
was doing. And maybe she wasn’t creative
with her posting. I mean, I don’t know,
but I was, like, writing her. I was like, “Hey, Ems,
what’s up evil sister?” [ Cheers and applause ]
Writing to some crazy person who’s like obsessed
and probably stalking her in, like, a dangerous way. -It’s so funny, because that
crazy person is probably like, “Oh, this fake Charlize account
is so annoying!” [ Laughter ]
“Keeps messaging me nonstop.” Well, I’m obsessed. You’re a pro.
I love it so much.
